We Best Align And Find Balance When We Meet Energy Where It’s At

January 22, 2021

Understanding that we are a bundle of energy that is very much alive and moving constantly within our body can help understand our change of moods and feeling of being in or out of balance. I’m sure you heard the expression “the bundle of nerves”. Aligning with this energy creates this feeling of balance; on the other hand,  the notion of out of balance can bring feelings of anxiety or depression. Anxiety and depression are not foreign invaders of our systems—they are necessary survival skills we all have. There are three states or quality that energy takes:

  • Rajasic - in emotional terms, this would be anxiety, anxiety-based depression, mania

  • Tamasic - In emotional terms, this would be depression, lethargy, heaviness.

  • The goal of practice is Sattva - balance

The point is that yogic philosophy views these “conditions” not as something to get rid of, but rather as experiences that may require balancing. The first step is to understand this phenomenon and learn how to work with it to our advantage.

Yoga therapists seek to support people where they are currently, then offer a yogic intervention to help them find balance. With the support of the Yoga therapist you get to know yourself better and learn the necessary skills, rituals, and understanding to make possible transition to a sattvic energy.

In these very challenging times, moving through winter, darknest and cold, and also this necessary adjustment to everyday life can be a huge disturbance to your wellness, energy and managing your moods. Should you need support to find your way please reach out and let's talk.

Here is an article from the IAYT (international association for yoga therapy) sharing the story of one individual. Supporting anxiety and depression through yoga therapy

Join me Sunday January 31, 2021 in the Art of Relaxation class.  We will learn how to align and relax into the moment. Relaxation is aligning with your nervous system.  It is not always restorative, yin or sleep. It should include movement and breathing to get the energy moving within and allowing this energy to find it’s sattvic quality.
